Matthew 9:27-30 “And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. 28. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus said unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. 29. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 30. And their eyes were opened.”
Faith is a very important necessity in a person’s life. I believe that all men are given a measure of faith to believe what God wants them to believe, but many never exercise it properly, and finally become hardened, and can never believe anything without first seeing it. There are some things however, that can only be seen, or received by faith in what God has said. The scripture tells us in Hebrews 11:6 “For without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” So, we see that God is only pleased by the faith that we have in who he is, and what he can do. (“Must believe that he is” – that he does exist, “and that he is a rewarder” – he rewards faith). Do you trust that “he can,” and that “he will?”
Briefly, I want to look at some things that we receive by faith. I can only cover one in this article, but will continue for the next few weeks.
We see in our test in verse 30 of Matthew 9 that “Faith Brings Sight” – “And their eyes were opened.” In this story these men received physical sight, they were blind, but now they can see. This was brought about by their faith, but also the will of God. In verse 30 Jesus said “According to your faith, be it unto you.” Not only can we receive physical sight, but more importantly, we can receive spiritual sight to recognize the Lord as he is speaking and dealing in our lives. an example is found in Luke 24:31. Two of Christ’s disciples are walking down the road to Emmaus when Jesus steps out and begins to talk to them (Now this is after he has been crucified, buried, and raised again) concerning his resurrection. They are sad about what has happened and confused about what they have heard. Now, Jesus in verse 25 confronts them sharply for their lack of faith. Verse 25 says, “Then said he unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken, and then, verse 27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” O, my, what a message that must have been; Jesus preaching Jesus!!
When they reached their destination, they asked Jesus to come in and eat with them, and then verses 30 and 31 speaks of their spiritual eyes being opened so that they could recognize him, “And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31. And their eyes were opened.”
